One Year Polio-Free in Nigeria

On the 25th of July 2015, members of the Nelson Mandela Garden of 95 Trees in collaboration with members of the Rotary Club, Asaba planted some trees at the Garden to mark one year of Nigeria being polio-free.

Polio is an infectious viral disease that attacks the nervous system of its victim and can cause irreversible paralysis within hours of infection. Its attacks are most prevalent in young children and puts other unvaccinated children all over the world at risk of contracting it. While it has no cure, a comprehensive, population-wide vaccination can halt its endemic spread. On 24th July 2014, Nigeria achieved the feat of eradicating the polio spread.
