About FADE Africa

FADE Africa LogoFight Against Desert Encroachment (FADE) Africa was founded in May 2000. It has over the years championed the fight against environmental degradation, global warming and climate change in sub-Saharan Africa. FADE Africa has singularly driven the importance of planting trees in combating the effects of climate change. In addition to her world-acclaimed “Wall of Trees” pilot project in Makoda Local Government Area of Kano State and tree planting competition across secondary schools in Kano state, FADE has been involved in tree planting campaigns across the six (6) geopolitical zones in Nigeria.

FADE’s projects are targeted at promoting environmental advocacy, adaptation and mitigation. The Mandela Garden of 95 Trees Asaba is another opportunity to showcase the importance of environmental conservation. It also promotes a culture of social, educational and environmental well-being.

FADE’s association with Nelson Mandela and South Africa dates back to when FADE was an official delegation to the Earth Summit in 2000 and were received by the Mandela Family and Jacob Zuma who was then Deputy President of South Africa. The association culminated in a relationship that landed Nigeria and indeed Delta State, one of the monuments in the world today, the Mandela Garden of 95 Trees

FADE Africa is also an accredited observer to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Governing Council/Global Ministerial Environment Forum (GC/GMEF) and endorsed by the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD).
