About FADE Africa

FADE Africa LogoFight Against Desert Encroachment (FADE) Africa was founded in May 2000 and has over the years championed the fight against environment degradation, global warming and climate change in sub-Saharan Africa. FADE Africa has singularly driven the importance of planting trees in combating the effects of climate change. In addition to her world-acclaimed “Wall of Trees” pilot project in Makoda Local Government Area of Kano State and tree planting competition across secondary schools in Kano state, FADE has been involved in tree planting campaigns across the six (6) geopolitical zones in Nigeria.

FADE’s projects are targeted at promoting environmental advocacy, adaptation and mitigation. The Mandela Garden of 95 Trees Asaba is another opportunity to showcase the importance of environmental conservation and promote a culture of social, educational and environmental well-being.

FADE’s association with Nelson Mandela and South Africa dates back to when FADE was an official delegation to the Earth Summit in 2000 and were received by the Mandela Family and Mr Jacob Zuma who was then Deputy President of South Africa. The association, which has budded over the years, culminated in a relationship that landed Nigeria and indeed Delta State, one of the monuments in the world today, the Mandela Garden of 95 Trees

FADE Africa is also an accredited observer to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Governing Council/Global Ministerial Environment Forum (GC/GMEF) and endorsed by the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD). It currently has working partnerships with Lagos, Delta, Kano, Ogun and Katsina State governments. FADE Africa is also in partnership with the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) on the bridging and greening of the Sahara desert. A special purpose vehicle known as the Nigerian Society of Engineers – Taming African Deserts (NSE-TAD) to drive the project has been established and the Governing Council and Boards inaugurated.

FADE Africa is made up of skilled and seasoned professionals with collective proven track records in strategic analysis, project and programme management, building and construction, environmental management, agro-forestry and community development.

About Africa Rising Foundation

Endorsed by Africa Rising foundationAfrica Rising Foundation is an organization that works with Youths in creating a new breed of Africans that will empower Africa to be at the forefront of its development. It was started by two grandsons of Nelson Mandela, Ndaba and Kweku Mandela, in late 2009. The foundation which was established in 2010, was setup to create a new legacy and understanding of Africa as a continent by showcasing its tremendous potential and unprecedented growth. Soon after forming Africa Rising they were joined by a group of young and progressive Africans from different backgrounds with a vision to establish a platform that will enable every African living in and outside the African continent to identify with what it means to be an African. The primary focus of the Africa Rising Foundation is to change the perception of Africa by the global community by working together to help highlight and identify areas for social and economic development that young people from around the world can engage with.

Thus, Africa Rising Foundation is a conduit for the New African Generation that is committed to promoting Africa through a series of campaigns and programmes that address the continent’s socio-economic challenges. Its programmes includes the Leadership Development Programme, Walk with Me Campaign, Born Healthy and Campaign Exchange, which all focusing on her core mission and vision of projecting a new positive image of this rising continent to the world. Other channels being employed include publications, films, media and social interaction aimed at changing the mind set of young Africans to one that instills and uplifts a heightened sense of pride and purpose in young Africans. It is a platform that will empower Africans to say: “I am an African – I understand what it means to be African and above all, I am proud to be an African!”

About Delta State Partnership

Delta-stateDelta State is a state in Nigeria, comprising mainly of Anioma, Urhobo, Isoko, Ijaw, Ukwuani and Itsekiri tribes. Delta is an oil producing state of Nigeria situated in the region known as the Niger Delta, South-South Geo-political zone. The capital city is Asaba located at the northern end of the state while Warri is the economic nerve of the state, and also the most populated, located in the southern end of the state.

Delta State often referred to “The Big Heart” is richly endowed with human, material and natural resources. Apart from the abundant crude oil in the state, the state has developed a vibrant non-oil economy that includes agriculture, tourism and fisheries industries. The location of the state within the tropical region makes it an attraction for fun seeking tourists, serious local and foreign investors in industries, exporters of raw materials and manufacturers.

The state has a well-developed industrial capacity base with a refinery in Warri and processing plants. Apart from crude oil, Delta has other natural resources such as gypsum, lignite, marble, silica, Kaolin, clay, coal, tar sand, sharp sand and iron-ore.

With the advent of the Governor Uduaghan’s administration, focus has been placed on the mitigating and adaptation of Climate Change with the adoption of a Territorial Approach to Climate Change. The 2013 theme of the stakeholders’ forum was “Delta Beyond Oil-Opportunities In Climate Change”. Also, the inauguration of the Delta Schools climate Club, have charged pupils to take the climate change awareness campaign to the people at home.

Proper legal structures are also being put in place to ensure the Delta State Government is guided to continue efforts to make the state environmentally friendly and allow the government access funds from international agencies to develop quick-win projects that reduce the effect of climate change on Deltans.

The Nelson Mandela Garden of 95 Trees was given a take-off seed grant including 14,414 acres of choice land within the Asaba International Airport in Delta State, as well as continued support of the Delta State government.
